Short sleeves, mostly open in front, no skirt to speak of.

Seems to have long sleeves, and has a skirt. The pic looks like it's more closed in front like a judogi, but the NYT video looks more open like you said.

if you had a Shuai Jao jacket where you could unzip the sleeves and stuff them in a pouch in your back. Then you could fold the jacket into a sort-of bag to hold some Pat Benetar tapes...Well, not that but yes, Shuai Jao+sleeves.
You can do that classy 2on1 shoulder grip with the epaulette&lapel that you'd do with the short-sleeve&lapel of a Shua Jao jacket. Fun stuff. -
