So the prime difference between Sambo and other grappling arts is that the material is organized by root movement, rather than by position(BJJ) or technique(Judo, Shooto)?

the Russian Judo team actually rolled into the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and really f'd things up for the Japanese.

Also, the IJF governing body that made all those stupid rules adjustments were primarily Europeans so ya'can't really claim a Jap-conspiracy.

At CAMBO-70, which is basically Moscow's version of Kodokhan, the open randori is Judo or Sambo, the pairs basically decide on the spot. Some lineages cite that 70% of SAMBO is is from Judo. Others, not so much depending on the function as cited above^

Also, there's a SAMBO taught by some dumbass in Cali that's 70% Kung Fu. WTF!?

The reason I ask is because the range of techniques is obviously very different, the teaching methodolgy as described is very similar to Pekiti("don't worry about the techniques. Here's a set of movements and body mechanics, and you'll be able to apply them from these")

... Well you get the idea.

Some people* say that it's entirely arbitrary, and was just implemented to distance SAMBO from Judo.

*I have no idea, but wasn't the founder of SAMBO "discouraged" from acknowledging his Judo background?
