    Olympic Boxing

    So here I am watching the Olympics, and I have to ask what's going on with the scoring? I watched a perfectly good fighter get **** on by the judges. I'm talking about points being given to the wrong fighter during exchanges. Is anybody else watching this?

    I'm having a real hard time watching the olympic boxing. I've pretty much given up.

    And the running away in the final round when you are winning is just terrible.

    Yeh, they do seem to be pretty crap at the scoring on some of the matches I've seen. They also need to do something next time about the running away in the last round, and in my view the round length needs to be increased. Maybe do 3 rounds of 3 minutes rather than 4 rounds of 2 minutes....

    The electronic scoring system for amateur boxing is quite easy to subvert;

    3 of the 5 judges have to score the point within a second.

    Just for the sake of argument you have one judge who is not scoring any points for one of the boxers the percentage of judges that need to have reacted within the specified rises from 60% to 75% making it 15% more difficult to score a point.*

    If the same judge is continually scoring points for the other boxer the the difficulty of scoring a point decreases from 60% to 50%.*

    I also think that changing from 2 to 3 minute rounds would make the contest a fairer test of boxing skill.

    *This does not take into account the reaction times of the judges.

    Do they score jabs or only big hits? I watched the aussie boxers a bit and it confused the hell out of me. I used to train boxing and the scoring made absolutely no sense, so i can only wonder what most viewers thought.

    The Scoring has been terrible which makes it alot less enjoyable to watch, it's a shame because Great Britain has a really good team this year.

    You know the judges are doing a bad job when the announcers are even saying it.

    I was gonna start a thread on this too.
    The one good match I did see was between the US and Bulgaria. The bulgarian fighter, Georgiev or somethin, was fuckin amazing. Did anyone catch that one? He won the bout somethin like 15-1, and he was definetely earning it. The US kid could barely lay a glove on him and he was popping off counter shots and combos like nobody's business. It was really impressive.

    I watched a US fighter run away during the last 35 seconds of the last round and he was losing. I'm not sure what his plan was with that one.
