    Samuria Archers

Last night on the History Channel "History v Hollywood" on Cruises new movie... The host was talking about samuria archers. He said they were capable of hitting a target at 500 yards. Is this factual? I think even the English Longbow was good to 200 yards, but 500 yards... I think he misspoke that, but don't know.

No way it'll go 500 yards shooting straight. Maybe they mean if you shoot it up into the air and let it drop. The japanese bow wasn't even that powerful to begin with. Mongolian compound bows were the shizzle!

If you remember, he also said some samuari can hit their target at a half a mile, that's 880 yards!!!!!11!

What's up with TLC/Discovery/History these days?! Don't they do research anymore? Or do they just take what their "experts" say at face value?

Shiat.....and people are "learning" from their quality programming. At least they test **** out in junkyard wars......

Actually they're wrong a lot of times when it comes to the martial arts and most things oriental. Discovery channel has nothing but mcdojo's, the history channel is screwing up all the information and taking facts 'As is' when spoken by so called 'experts'. As for TLC, I don't know...I never trusted them anyways.

I hate T.V. more and more each day.

OK... what distance realistically could they hit at.... Example 50 yards 90% 100 yards 60% 150 yards 15%.... or something like that. I am not an archer so don't know. I know I am comfortable out to 300 yards with a rifle on a man size target.... but thats a rifle.

I doubt it could outrange a rifle. After all...the rifle replaced the bow.....and that was back when they were slower to reload than an arrow. I know that a good modern archer with a compound bow can hit accurately at 100m shooting straight. Any farther and I'm not sure.
