    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    UFC in the 90's

I will probably get alot of **** for this but did anyone else prefer UFC in the 90's when fighters could wear whatever they wanted and there were less rules and more martial arts than just bjj and mui tai.

Yeah, it was cool, but I guess Ninjers didn't like getting their asses handed to them in the cage, and so only the martial artists who could hold their own kept coming back. There's a reason that MMA has become mainly just a hybrid of boxing / muay thai / wrestling / BJJ, and that's because most of the time, practitioners of other styles got whipped. There's nothing to be done about it.

You should rephrase your OP to "The UFC in the 90s were great, I wish Kung Fu etc didn't suck so much"

In the 90's, people brought their style to MMA. That made it (largely) "style representative vs. style representative."

Today, for the most part, people bring their MMA to MMA. Infrequently there is a "style" challenger, and sometimes they do poorly (Wing Chun a few months back) and sometimes they do well (Cung Le). But everyone needs the bread and butter understanding of what their opponent will likely do.

But yeah, the gi's were nice. Very class. Nowadays you get pwned if you wear a gi...too many handles.

    Keith Hackney groin punches FTW!

I prefer MMA / UFC what it is today. It's gone from strength to strength. As already mentioned countless times already, the fighters now are all Mixed Martial Artists. Just a stand up guy or a ground guy wouldn't last in this kind of competition any more.
