I was just at the Bando Nationals on 11 Nov 06 in Colombus, OH supporting our MT fighters. They mentioned the name "Maung Gyi" frequently there.
Fraudulent military service claims are quite common.
Do you think you can dig up some more information regarding this?

I've fought against Sikaran (sp?) trained fighters back in the day. Really tough guys with a style that looks like a hybrid of TKD and Muay Thai.

I know Vietnam has VoVinam or something...they do a demonstration at the Chinese New Year festivals here in Orlando every year...

Reminds me of some hybrid of Kung Fu and TKD...a lot of forms (a lot of XMA-esque stuff, also) and 1-step style sparring, that always ends in a flying head scissors...it's almost comical to someone who knows anything about practical arts, but the crowd always eats it up...

vovinam is just a blanket term for vo, martial arts, found/studied in Vietnam. you can obviously tell why this would be influenced by Chinese and Korean MA's... and then commercialized.

vo binh dinh / vo tay son is a traditional Vietnamese martial arts from the Binh Dinh region of Vietnam that emphasizes low kicks, joint breaks and looks like a mix of Muay Thai, grappling shui chiao-ey kungfu and some weapons forms.
