Steve, is it generally rare to find no gi sambo tournaments? I'm interested in competing next year.

Also, when the event is no gi, are wrestling shoes or sambofski required? Does one's top and shorts have to be blue or red? The site only seems to specify rules with Kurtka.

    Thank you sir.

Well, We have never hosted a no gi event before at our tournaments. So we will see how it goes. But, I should say that I don't consider it "no-gi sambo". It is just a submission or draw grappling division. The whole no-gi sambo thing is rediculous to me. Just call it grappling...especially when there are no points being scored. shoes are not required, nor are the colors.

Yeah, the website is a bit confusing and the rules download is hidden a bit. I need to change that. Here are the rules, reg forms, etc for the 2008 event in NJ:

    Yeah, that is kindaaaa weird.

That same form says a Kurtka is required. Damn.

Well, at any rate, you will probably see me within the next year or so. :)

    Thanks for the information.

In the no-gi rules, it does not say a kurtka is required. Only in the freestyle sambo rules. Scroll down to the no-gi rules

Confirmed today that the Nepali team (via the Asian Sambo Federation) will be attending with three athletes. Thier visas have been approved and I spoke with their rep today regarding hotels, registration, etc.

Pre-registration dealine is coming up fast -sept 5th (this goes for the hotel as well). So, unless you want to pay a higher fee at the door, try to pre-register ASAP.

All reg forms can be downloaded here:

That sounds like so much fun, Steve. If I weren't competing the day before, I'd definitely make the trip to Rahway. As a bartender, it's hard enough to get 1 weekend day off to compete. Keep us posted the next time you have an event in NJ and try to avoid being the day after IBJJF tournaments so some of us adventurous BJJ guys can try!
