What's the next big thing to hit MA???

The last big revolution to MA was BJJ well maybe you could throw Krav Maga in there as well because it seems to be the flavor of the moment.

BJJ took the world by storm starting in the early 90's even though it had been around for a long time before that because of the great marketing ploy used by the Gracies during the first few UFC's. That and because it's very effective and showed that you need to have some kind of ground game or you will be in for some trouble.

I'm thinking that the more popular Fedor becomes outside of the the MMA world the more popular Cobat Sambo will become. In fact I'm surprise more Sambo schools haven't been popping up around the U.S. There are few places around where you can't find a BJJ school of some sort, again great marketing by the Gracies.

Do you think there are any MA not so popular now that will explode upon the scene in the next few years? I'm picking Combat Sambo.

I doubt sambo will become a big revolutionary thing. Especially as more and more schools move further away from Gi BJJ to basically doing a mishmash of whatever grappling works.

I agree. Especially when you consider BJJ turned the world upside down because grapplers were beating strikers and it wasn't supposed to work that way. sambo is just another form of grappling.

Surprisingly BJJ isn't that popular here in Australia. Muay Thai seems to be quite dominate here juding by the amount of muay Tahi and kickboxing schools around and the amount of people that have or are doing Muay Thai here.

Seriously though, I see striking making a big comeback. Enough people grapple now that the cat's basically out of the bag. A pure grappler vs. a pure striker is a fairly predictable outcome. But what if the striker can sprawl and pass guard? You better be able to go toe-to-toe.

What striking style will this be? I honestly don't know and don't care

I have a strong feeling it's going to be Muay Thai.

I hope not. Kickboxing is to much contact for most people so it becoming a thing the average joe and jane want to do is just going to result in it getting more and more sucky.
