Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it looked like you were asking about extra nose protection. I don't have a problem with headgear; it protects your brain, and brains are important and whatnot. The nose, however, does not contain any vital organs.

We use caged headgear when we spar all out at my dojo. They are generally good for protecting your face but you also lose a lot of vision so you must spar without them as well. Even with the cage I've gotten lit up twice. The first time I didn't have it on tight enough and a wilding noob hit it hard enough to make it spin and slice my nose open. The second time a 260lb wilding noob straight blasted it hard enough to make part of the cage imprint my face (that kid hits really goddamn hard). The bottom line is you can have a pretty face or you can train, it's hard to have both.
