    Hanging Situps?

When I was younger I did upside down or hanging situps.
Usually from the Chin up of a universal.

    Are these good bad?

I do not do them now... out of shape old lazy:(

I see no harm. It'd seem to be everything the sit-up is without whatever lower back implications there are.

I used to do these because I saw rocky do them in rocky 3 hanging from a loft in a barn. I did mine from tree limbs. There was a perfect tree for it in my yard. These two low limbs were kind of like parallel bars. Anyway, I decided after a few years that these weren't really helping me more than regular sit-ups - but I did come up with a new exercise while doing them that I liked. I would sit on my thighs on one limb, let my shins rest under the other and kind of lower my body down and then up again like some kind of weird backwards leg extensions like you do on the weight machines. I called them leg pull-ups. They were great for the quads. I did these on parallel bars in Brittlebank Park sometimes and at Sugar Grove Elementary School down the street.

I don't know if either one of these will give you back problems but I did them for years and I'm okay. My knees aren't as good as they were back then but that's from kicking too many trees, jumping off of things and getting old. I'm 32.

    You have no idea.

Anyway, hanging leg raises and crunches rule.

Bas Rutten shows those hanging situps..in his two big books...

If only I could pull my fingers toghther to type properly.

Getting old sucks. Being an old MAist sucks even more. The brain says "I can do this move!". To wich the body replies "Yeah right, in your dreams!"

Well, men are supposed to reach their peak of physical performance in their early to late 30's. Unfortunately, by that time, most have already blown up into fatties or injured themselves in the course of work (back) or recreational suicide like football (knees) or baseball (rotators).
Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog
