    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Is this a traditional Muay Thai technique?

Sorry, I don't know how to embed.

And if it is, why is it less common? I'd suspect kicking straight into the bigger muscle would require more power for similar effect, and that positions only provides less.

You did it right. And it does look a bit like a MT roundhouse. There's something off about it though. Partly he's not turning his plant foot enough, and I've also seen Thai kicks done while on the ball of the plant foot. This one looks a bit flat-footed.

It looks like a ninjitsu guy is trying to show a Muay Thai technique as Budo Ninjitsu.

Look hows hes even holding his hands, trying to imitate what hes seen Thais do.

    ^^^ Truth!

This guy sucks at kicking, he pivots on his heel and the ball of his foot from kick to kick, he looks even straight legged in some of his kicks. No balance, flat footed, and most of all it appears to definitely be imitating MT style defense with the hand positions. He's also clearly not practiced this technique much with his left leg, he pre-pivots every time and then locks that foot down. Hell his pivoting is so shitty it doesnt even work his hips into it!

The best part of this vid is how it let's us all see how this technique would work against a vicious attacker deadset on harming you! Very realistic!

He's not turning his hip over. Notice how his knee is always pointing UP througout the course of the kick?

Notice how he always drops his left hand for balance, regardless of which leg he uses to kick?

I have seen a similar low kick for short range use - more like a knee to the front of the high, but it wasn't MT. This guy steps way in from longer range and then uses a short range technique - odd.

Hey guys, I'm new here.. I have attended a few Muay Thai seminars, many with the Thai Boxing Association (surchai "CHAI" Sirisute).. It looks like he is trying to hit the sciatic nerve but is using his tibia (shin) instead of his instep. I have seen quite a few Thai Boxing practitioners use this method but In any regard.. his stance is a bit awkward and his hands are set up soo poorly... He is wide open for a counter knee and or elbow.. 1st rule in Thai Boxing.. never drop your hands below your cheeks ( face heeks) and keep your elbows tight to your body

It also looks like he might be turning too much with his body into the kick (while staying on his heel almost). It looks like he can't keep balance after each, which wouldn't be much easier on the ball of your foot.
