I was actually pretty sure Pride did a 20x20 ring in Vegas, although I remember hearing it was initially a 23x23. Boxing rings vary as I'm sure you know; I think 24x24 is the maximum but 20x20 is pretty standard.

Good point on the "within the ropes" thing.

My point, though, was that the Pride ring and pretty much every boxing ring is actually smaller than the Octagon, so the post I was responding to was fairly dumb.

Aside from the fact that mma in a ring instead of a cage is pretty inherently dumb, as people constantly falling through the ring ropes has ably demonstrated.

I believe that they were looking for someone they could market as a legitimate contender for the belt...If I remember correctly, at the time, Leben had a pretty decent record, and was looking to step into title contention himself. Silva was considered a 'test'. Which obviously, Leben failed. Not that you could blame him.

Silva got the shot instead, I think probably because at the time, there really weren't a lot of middle weights out there that were viable contenders. And he fucking destroyed the champion.

And then he did it again.

It wasn't just that he won. It's that he won easily, and made it look cool. He's ratings gold.

What do you think a Hexagon is?

I have a confession to make: I did state, on numerous occasions, that Tim Sylvia had a good chance to beat Fedor and did indeed attempt to ride the Sylvia bandwagon in a most Rocky IVish manner (Is it still a bandwagon if you are alone up there?). I now expose myself to the well deserved mockery and derision of my peers.

I believe I'm right about the definition of a decagon, but they do look like imperfect circles.

Yes, that catch-wrestling left hook from the guy that trains under a BJJ black belt was truly a triumph for Catch
