You shower first so that your disgusting bacterial infected sweat doesn't get in the water.
I used to sauna first and then jump in the water so it felt even colder. Will try it the other way around and see how i feel.

Now, this was in one of my favorite books, Science of sports training, and the author (Thom Kurz) recommends hot and cold shower to prevent muscle soreness. But, after a while, if you do the same routine over and over, it will lose it's effectiveness. Basically, save it for the really hard workouts, so you don't build up a tolerance. You know, you could sauna on the days that you don't train as hard, cold bath/hot on the hard, draining workouts, etc.

I'd like to know more about the proven health benefits of dry saunas..I have read a couple of articles on the internet, but that's it.
I do the hot sauna for about 10 or 15 minutes, then go rinse with cold water for a few minutes and cool down, drink water and go back in for another 10 and repeat - when I have the time to do it like that.
It works for me." If one wants to have a friend one must also want to wage war for him: and to wage war one must be capable of being an enemy." - Fr. Nietzsche 'On The Friend' Thus Spake Zarathustra
