It's not really a worry, especially in the UK; we don't have any MMA on TV, so there isn't a massive fan base. This means that most of the people into MMA, are MMAers, Hhnce it won't die. Besides, what if it's popularity with the public did die? It's not like people would stop training in MMA, or the fighters would stop fighting.

    good posts all.

    fingerormoon,

I concur with what you said in my other post on this thread. But rgd to my statement on Pride Japan 'at peak and dropping' what I meant was... I wonder if it can grow any bigger. There were some rumors around the UG that DSE was having some financial trouble. And I think it was Chris Brennan (or some other fighter, correct me if I'm wrong) who posted that the majority of ppl don't realise that PRide may actually be going through a tough time in the near future.

    MMA_Phil,

does'nt setanta (sp) do the pay per views for UFC in the UK now?

Frankdooks, are you talking spectator or participatory sport in Japan in regards to your statistic?
And that's when I figured out that tears couldn't make somebody who was dead alive again. There's another thing to learn about tears, they can't make somebody who doesn't love you any more love you again. It's the same with prayers. I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad.

Its public knowledge PRIDE have had some financial knowledge.
Their owner committed suicide a while ago.

Its more because of the ludicrous amounts they pay fighters.
I'm all for fighters making good money but some of the rumored amounts are out there.

    greese,

I was talking spectator-wise. They have such great legendary 'hero status' figures in Japan, it is hard not to. e.g. Saku, Takada back in the day, and currently, Yoshida. If only the same could be said of Hughes, Couture, Sylvia.... maybe one day

Boxing used to be WAY more important than it is today.
Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

What ludirous amounts? a champion in Pride may make up to a million for a really big fight. Thats just a drop in the bucket compared to boxing or other sports. These guys could lose it all in just one fight. Whats wrong with them making money? I suppose they should just give all the money to the promotors like they do in the UFC.
