He pretty much says the same thing Rusher, Asia, myself and Omega have said for years;kung fu looks like kickboxing with specific stylistic differences you can see if you know what too look for in an art.

    Hi guys!

Man, wish I could watch those clips, but still no good vpn..

Is one of the clips from my school? If it is, it can only be showing very beginner students, all the clips I have are of students with less than 5 months training, except one with my gongfu brother Sakias, who has been training for quite a while (if he is in the clip he's the one with long blond hair tied at the back). Plus, all the clips of my guys are when they are sparring wing chun students.

Anyway, thats a good question; what is mantis supposed to look like when sparring? Ideally, it would be aggressive and forwards moving, it would have rapid combination strikes and kicks, and would often change levels. It would also strive to follow the formula kick, hit, grab, and throw. A good mantis guy might be able to trap a lot and control the opponents arms in order to get him into a bad position before striking and throwing. I would say that low kicks should outnumber high kicks, but then a lot of northern mantis schools teach high kicks as well.

Hmm, I've done mantis for a while, but does my sparring look like the ideal? Maybe sometimes but it probably also looks a bit like kick boxing or thai boxing at times, or even mma.

I don't know, I think a lot of people might expect a styles sparring to resemble a styles forms. However, even though forms may show the body method and principles, I think sparring is too chaotic to allow totally pure and clean body method that always shows the "flavor" of the style.

For me, I do my thing and train my style, and what comes out when I sparr or fight is fine by me.. Hehe, as long as I don't get my butt kicked!!!

    Cheers, Antony

Don't think I've seen this one here. Some restrictions, not typical lei tai contact but worth watching imo.

Good stuff rabbit, although the no face hitting makes me a sad panda. Is there any lei tai/sanda with:

    MMA gloves
Palm and elbow striking to head and body
Knees to the head and body
Punches allowed to the head and body

It's annoying how arbitrary some of the rules in full contact are. At least that one just straight up admits that the point is to avoid head trauma but all the different rulesets with such selectivity about what you can do with strikes to the head is annoying.
