Apparently there's been contracts sent out for Kimbo to be fighting Brett Rogers, possibly on the next CBS card.

Whats the news on Brett, is he a can, or is he a well rounded MMA fighter from a decent camp?

Honestly, not sure. He seems to be the typical heavyweight slugger. His Sherdog record has the following:

    http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/f...ighterID=16048

He's probably much better than Kimbo considering how fast he destroyed James Thomson. Then again, you can't use MMA math in MMA. Bret seems to enjoy the sprawl and brawl style of fighting. When he's put on the ground, he prefers to get up. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone has testing his ground game yet. None of his fights, it seems, have gone past the first round. This usually means three things:

    1) Someone who can take his punches and has better striking then he has will probably beat him.

    2) Someone who can take him down and keep him there will probably submit him.

    3) Cardio could be a factor, if someone doesn't have to tools to perform #1 or #2 then this one will come into play.

Well, regardless, I'm not sure if Kimbo can give him the type of test he needs. So far, the only person of "worth" Rogers has faced is Thompson. I think he will require fighting someone like a Ricco Rodriguez, Antonio Silva, etc, to really see where he is on the big scheme of things.

Oddly enough, Jeff Monson called Kimbo out recently around the same time as Lindland. This is the first time I've ever seen Monson really pissed off.

I'm still not ready to write Kimbo off just yet. He has a punchers chance in every fight he's in, he trains in a good camp and so far from what I have seen, he has conducted himself as a class act during interviews.

    Neither am i

however, his fame != his skill level, and thats wrong, especially when there are HUGELY amazing fighters out there with 6 times the talent he has, getting almost no coverage...

not that its his fault, though.

PROOF that I'm not a completely useless poster:

Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Not really for most competitive sports, but for many forms of entertainment. Right now, there are probably more people watching MMA for the "entertainment" of it then the "sport" of it. Until the majority of the money coming in comes from people who are watching it for the "sport" of it than expect this to continue. Don't get me wrong, many people who watch sports watch for the entertainment value. There is no question. The thing is, no one is going to watch an NBA finals where a team who didn't bust their ass gets a shot at the champions for the title. It's one of the reasons team sports have elimination tournaments. You determine the best by beating the best. You can hype that team up all you want; they could have the most interesting story, players, etc., but unless they worked their way up, people aren't going to watch it. They will consider it a farce. The same way hardcore MMA fans consider Kimbo a farce and more mainstream people, who just want to see a spectacle, care less.
