So at what moment in the competition did the Sambo black belt start to believe he had a shot at making it all the way?
I bet this makes Omega giggle like a school girl.

How tall is Amir? Think he can drop to 170? He doesn't look that big.

Most of those guys looked like 170'ers only Jesse and riddle looked like authentic 185'ers

Usually that's how it goes on Tuf

Either there or to another established gym. Unless they already came from one of the good MMA gyms out there. When you take that step up in competition that is the UFC, it isn't just a matter of good teaching, it also a matter of good training partners which most places don't have. Many places have those 1-3 guys that are good and everyone else is just fodder for those guys. When you find yourself in that situation then that's when it's time to make that move. It's one of the things that make gyms like Xtreme Couture, Greg Jackson, American Top Team, etc such powerhouses. It's not just the training, but the training partners that help push the fighters to that new level needed to deal with that huge jump in competition.

Another option, would be to bring high level guys to your area (i.e. what B.J. Penn does, what Rampage does, etc). These guys might enjoy the training and stay or come through multiple times which could then increase the quality of the guys/gals coming out of that camp.
