UFC July 19th Event (The Spider to LHW!!)

The UFC is obviously worried about the July 19th Affliction show, hence they've created their own event on the same date. Now though, there's actually something that might make it worth watching.

Two debuts for fighters new to the Light Heavy division: Brandon Vera down, Anderson Silva up. Vera is fighting Reese Andy, who I've never heard of, and Silva is fighting James Irvin.

Obviously, Fedor fighting again is still the trump card, and an American audience has been missing a decent heavyweight card for awhile. But now I'm at least interested in the UFC event and it's free, unlike the Affliction card.

I'm picking Silva by knee to the head and Vera by finally fighting in the appropriate weight class. How is Vera able to fight again so soon after being KOed though? What happened to the whole medical suspension thing?

fedor is not a trump card in the us market, especially when saddled with tim sylvia. fedor vs lindland did, what, 13k buys?

also, zuffa is not "worried" about affliction. they are annoyed. they know affliction will fail after ~two shows with maybe 100k ppv buys between them - this is just spite.

The last time the UFC tried to undercut another show with counter-programming, their stuff turned out to be better than the competitor's (This was against the Elite XC primetime show, so it's not saying much. But still). Countering another show with crappy programming would be a lame and cheap way to suck up another show's potential customers, but the UFC's putting on good ****, especially this time.

He wasn't KO'd, just punched from mount that the ref stopped it. No disrespect to Werdum but those punches where lightweight. As I'm a lightweight, they probably would have knocked my ass out (and a gassed Gonzaga) but no one else.

I will be watching affliction. Out of intrest and principle. There is a UFC every other week these days. I have no problem passing it up for a potentially good show. Additionally, the first hour of affliction will be free on Fox Sports.
