Why dont great partners become good

Why is it that all great fighters that had training partners or friends that help them train never became

great themselves .I was just wondering because every great fighter had a training partner and had them since they started. So why dont they become great as well is it lack of hard work dedication, determination, passion what is it exactly not just fighters all great athlethes why is it that training partners and friends don't also succeed.
