Some Lei Tai competitions allow elbows and knees. In the UK there's a nascent Kuo Shu league allowing elbows and knees, MMA gloves and 5 seconds on the ground.

there also seems to be a trend here in tournaments to have (body) knees in normal sanda and shinpads instead of body padding, without head gear.
still, some of the rules are a bit weird e.g. 2 times out of bounds loses the round and encourage going for points.
I would just train both but no sanda instructors in alaska maybe next time i go to cali i will look for one
ive been watching one fc and martial combat. lots of sanda and wushu guys doing quite well. im actually fascinated with sanda. love their footwork and rythmn.
