    UFC 2 Prelim Fight

    Robert Lucarelli vs. Orlando Weit

When ownership of the UFC changed hands, a lot of un-aired alternate matches were lost; fortunately, this one was not. Muay Thai badass and early favorite, Orlando Weit, takes on kickboxer Robert Lucarelli. Lucarelli had some collegiate wrestling experience, as you'll see:

I think that made up for Rodney King, right there. I suppose this explains why the announcers found it conceivable that Weit could beat Remco Pardoel in the quarter-finals.

I really wish more of the prelim/non-aired early UFC fights were available. That stuff is entertaining as hell.

There are two other prelim fights on the UFC 2 DVD. In one, Texas Ninja Scott Morris actually manages to win a fight with a choke. In the other, Pat Smith guillotines Ray Wizard until he passes out. Neither are as entertaining as this one, but there are probably a lot of other good or interesting matches that occured in other UFC events; unfortunately, a lot of them are probably lost forever. Luckily, you can see clips of some of them in the portions of the UFC events that were aired live.

I seriouslly wonder if the tapes of a lot of these prelim fights are destroyed. Maybe an epic investigative mission could turn up some old VHS tapes hidden under some guy's bed. Atleast you can occasionally find "Secrets of the Octagon" tapes on EBAY.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I don't think it's going anywhere. Besides, if your local video-rental store has a UFC 2 DVD copy, it'll never be lost to you.

Actually, I own the DVD and could upload all the fights if they were ever lost. That is, if I get a DVD decoder on my PC.
