    Brown Rice Protein

    Has anyone used this sort of protein powder? I am not sure what to look at in terms of how good it is compared to Whey, can anyone else?

    I have been advised to cut all dairy products out of my diet, so that would include Whey also so need to find an alternative.

    I don't think Whey protein itself is dairy based, only the milk you put it in normally. You can put it in water or anything else if you like. I'm sure there are non-dairy based beverages that have similar protein contents to milk, but I haven't researched it.

    If you shop at myprotein regularly, they sell a whey protein (think its called Isolate) that contains no Lactose in it

    Whey is the liquid that's left when you take out the milk solids in the cheese making process.

    go take a look at trueprotein.com
    you can get egg protein, rice, soy, pea, and hemp - all should meet your needs for a non-dairy option - mixed how you want with other incredients.
    I'd suggest trying egg as your first option if you can for bio availability, then take your pick otherwise.

    Generally hemp protein has a pretty strong nut flavor, and doesn't mix that well with liquid. Personally I use egg whites or pea protein powder.

    Thanks for the replies, I found the reviews of Brown Rice protein on myprotein.co.uk and it sounds like truely disgusting stuff. I treat proteins shakes as just a necessary part of training but at the same time I don't want to gag on them.

    Think I will dry the egg based ones, the reason why I have been advised to steer clear of dairy products is not because of lactose intolerance but because they "may" be a cause of acne that I get on my body.. the evidence seems a bit shaky to be honest, but will give it a try.
