I was actually going to respond seriously to this post until I saw who made it (Come clean moment: I'm highly drunk). Shut the **** up and learn how to grapple first, please. Or, since you likely own Eddie Bravo's Mastering The Rubber Guard and are too young and stupid to listen to dozens of grapplers who know better than you, just go to that and figure it out from there.
No, really. I haven't gotten to explain to a teenager why he or she is a snowflake in at least two weeks. Please keep asking retarded questions like this."No. Listen to me because I know what I'm talking about here." -- Hannibal -

Think before you post. Hell, think before you act.
If your opening sentence said something like, "I'm having trouble understanding the mechanics of the inverted triangle." I assure you, you would have received a better response.

You cant even lock in a triangle and you are asking how to invert it????? ask your instructor the correct way to adjust and lock off a triangle, i mean surely thats what you are paying him for? once you can do that without getting your guard passed come back and re-ask about the inverted thingamywhatsit

oh and if it helps i was there for a looooong time, with my short legs i had never managed to lock one off without getting my guard passed. Once i was shown the correct way to adjust my position/technique while maintaining control of my opponent it all became clear (along with the myriad of options that open as a result of them trying to escape a properly applied triangle)

Well, here is my thought process:

And, even if it won't, it confuses me, and i'd like to know how its done...

Ah, when you put it like that...

Let me re-phrase everything again:
Recently, when rolling, i've encountered a problem locking in the triangle on bigger guys.
I feel like i'm doing everything right, and i have long legs, but still, their bulky shoulders make it difficult for me to lock in the choke.
What do you guys suggest i do to fix this? Are my hips under my opponent too much? Am i not on the right angle? I've tried underhooking the ankle (like you do as your finishing the triangle) and noticed that when my legs are open, its just asking them to pass.

make sure you're cutting enough of an angle. i've been triangled by guys with legs so short they can't comfortably close guard around me, because they followed the right steps and got a good deep angle.Recently, when rolling, i've encountered a problem locking in the triangle on bigger guys.

my usual solution if i can't quite close a standard triangle is to finish with an arm. same side arm overhand grabs the ankle (outside arm may grab it from below for control), shove elbow into neck.Last edited by pauli; 6/09/2008 8:34am at .
