Jens Pulver vs Urijah Faber: The Sunday WEC fight that puts Elite CX in the can

I missed this fight but found a link after a MA buddy of mine told me how much punishment Jens went through going the distance.

The fight can be viewed in two parts here. 5 rounds of good stuff.

Not too happy about Urijah's strikes to the back of the head of Jens.

I used to think Faber was just fighting guys who
weren't good enough to fight somewhere else.

BUt he dominated Pulver. Jens had to use every
bit of knowledge, ring savvy & luck all his years
of top level mma gave him, just to stay in the fight.

Faber is a great athlete, and that coupled with his
awesome conditioning kept him from being taken
apart by Pulver. Add in his skills, and he was able
to keep attacking, and stay ahead.

    Good fight overall.

Great fight, but I personally preferred the Maeda vs Torres fight.

I think the fight was fixed. I am not sure at all if Jenz Pulver could beat Faber, but there were so many holes in there I couldn't watch the entire fight. Half way through the first round I told myself that it was going to the cards. So many pulled punches and missed opportunities that I never recall happening in a match of UFC championship calibur. Sure, you could say Jenz has lost a step, or was intimidated, or even that I have grown paranoid of the UFC (and many other MMA organizations') credibility. But I simply can not with an honest heart state that I even feel as if the fight might have been straight forward.

I seriously doubt that Jens would have taken anywhere near that amount of punishment had the fight been fixed. If they were going to fix it there would have been a stoppage or knockout. I just can't see someone of Jens' calibur willing to risk permanent dissfigurement for a fixed fight. I understand your point about pulled punches, but honestly, I think Faber just overwhelmed him and had him off balance.

One of the best fights I've seen in a while IMO, Jens hung in there and I was almost sure he'd pull a late KO/TKO out of nowhere for the upset.

You're a moron, both guys hit each other with full power shots throughout that fight. Jens couldn't defend the takedown and deal with Faber's freakish speed at the same time, so he got beaten to the punch a lot.
