    Fightmetric Analysis of Machida

There's been very, very little of it on bullshido, but on sherdog there were a bunch of threads right after UFC 84 whose main point was Lyoto Machida = Kalib Starnes. That discussion isn't going on here, but I still thought I'd share an interesting tidbit from fight metric. According to their report, Kalib Starnes landed 15 strikes in the entire fight against Nate Quarry. Meanwhile, Lyoto Machida landed at least 15 strikes in each round of the Ortiz fight. That report is here.

Also, another incredible statistic: Tito Ortiz landed 7 strikes in the 2nd round, and a whopping 0 in the first. He also missed on 2 shot attempts in the first. Ladies and gentlemen, Lyoto Machida literally pitched a shutout round in round 1, Tito Ortiz landed no offense whatsoever.

Sage advice. But that's why I didn't post this there.

I have to keep re-learning my lesson after every Machida and Cung Le win.

Very interesting. So if you were to look at a fight metric report, Kalib Starnes statistics from his fight with Nate Quary, on paper, beat Tito Ortiz's statistics when he fought Machida.

    This is so awsome.

Of course, over the entire fight, the numbers also show that Machida only landed a strike once per ~13.5 seconds. And that folks, whether you want to consider it an effective strategy or failing to engage (not exactly mutually exclusive) is why Machida will probably never be very popular.

I've never actually been to fightmetrics before. That site is awesome. and mathematically proves BJ Penn's bad-assitude.

Yeah... to me Tito looked like a statue being drug around the ring. He didn't do anything yet everyone complains about Machida?

Does it show strikes thrown versus strikes landed?
