Damn...where do we come from?
OK, so there's this monk, right? Well, before he was a monk, he was a kid, and his dad studied under Choi Yongsul. So his dad taught him stuff. Then he decided the boxing was awesome. So he boxed. Turns out he was a good at it. He was kinda always introspective, and he began to wonder what the meaning of beating people was, not like the "why beat people?", but "who is beating this person?". So he stopped boxing & started sitting. Then he had to join the military, cuz, it was like, a rule. So he joined the military and did that. After getting out, he became a monk. He started learning all that "be like water" **** that Bruce Lee always talked about (Bruce really ripped off Zen). Where Bruce found himself "trapped" by JKD, the monk never really had that problem. The monk inherits a lineage of patriarchal Seon Buddhism that is completely singular in regards to Seon, a lineage of Dharmic Badasses, rebels, revolutionaries, freedom fighters, etc. Even so-called bastions of Korean Seon fall before the monk. Mountains crumble, wheels melt; swords are shattered; bodies are destroyed, lives are taken.
Flash forward several decades. Monk moves to Baltimore. Cuz they do that every once in a while. Meditate on a mountain for decades, move to Baltimore (come for the crabs, stay for the VD). You know how it is. The monk takes over a defunct temple outside of the city and inherits this dumbass white boy who randomly came by the temple cuz he was like, looking for meaning & dumb **** like that. Turns out the white boy spoke really bad Korean, and had a history of Korean karate and that crazy **** known as Sibpalgi. The white boy also had a history of JKD and a complete hard on for Bruce. Said white boy was also completely disenfranchised with the Korean MA scene, bullshit, ineffectiveness, & hipocracy. Oh, and JFS. So, the monk starts teaching the white boy, cuz, you know, "Forbidden Kingdom" hadn't come out yet, so it wasn't completely trite. The white boy didn't learn anything really revolutionary MA-wise (though the monk really hit hard), but he found his mind completely blown by what the monk taught him. The monk would say things that the white dude would think "I read that in the Tao of Jeet Kune Do", and then the monk would demonstrate how the dude & Bruce Lee didn't have a clue.
The white dude is taught to climb mountains. He is introduced to masters & challenged by them. It is not easy for him, despite a background that includes striking, grappling, weapons, logic, aesthetics, ethics, metaphysics, & epistemology. He learns things like headbutting & serving tea. He spars with sword masters so great that they don't need swords to defeat him (fucking assholes...) Then the **** hits the fan, and whatever "meaning" existed ceases for the kid. All he's left with is hitting...just keep hitting. False structures falling apart isn't necessarily a bad thing. Climb Mount Sumeru. Rend it from top to bottom..
Yes, that was complete bullshit. Just forget I ever said anything.
Stuff like kicking & punching & twisting & stabbing people. Oh, and hitting them with sticks.

Yeah, I didn't wan to post them on this thread with out your permission.
The hood mentality is crippling disease, that attacks your nervous system. It makes you nervous of the system. Gangsters and hood rats are especially susceptible to this growth stunting mentality. Stick & knife work primarily. The stick work is derived from both Korean short & twin sword sets found in the Muyaedobotongji, and taught utilizing methodologies derived from JKD Kali. The knife work follows similarly. Students are taught basic strikes & receptions, footwork, etc, then move into flowdrills. Following that, sparring using lacross gloves & helmets.
