I've been victim of those. A guy I used to spar all the time in TKD loved to lead out with a sort of lunging lead leg round kick. He would slip it in and get points all the time. I got used to it and got really good at blocking or dodging it and countering. So our instructor talks to him for a few seconds between rounds and the next round he leads out with a lead leg hook kick, I reflexively move AWAY from where the round kick would have been, and RIGHT INTO his heel. Big ol' cut across the top of my eye and I stumbled backwards all the way across the room until I fell down near the wall. Was hilarious.

Those are nasty but you really have to have the technique down plus you need good stretching and speed to make them "kill".

A good setup for spinning hook kick would be to push your opponent backwards with a series of fast "roundhouse" or MTjabkicks and when he is against the ring and can't move further give him you best shot.

Everything else is 98% not going to work and will get you in more trouble then you can handle.

Terrible fucking idea. Seriously. Who the hell does this kind of **** in a match where people are allowed to kick the legs.

The spinning hook kick is some power shot ****. It's some knock a ************ out on the spot ****. It's not that gay ****. It's that SSK ****.

Seriously, there is no reason to throw a front leg hook kick. **** that.

And I'd bet the two have similar effects.

Heel -> temple -> lights out.
Yeah, if you're kicking a 50 watt bulb, with your front leg hook kick, that is.

I'm agreeing with ? for once. No-spin hook kicks are awesome for point sparring, but a terrible idea otherwise. It's very hard to get power on them and if you miss, the hamstring on your lead leg ends up wiiiiiiiiide open for a leg kick that will hurt a hell of a lot more than the hook kick did. Plus, the time you'd need to spend to actually get any power with it could be infinitely better spent on more useful techniques.

    No, it is not.

In fact, I would venture to suggest that it is perfect for internet discussion because it is not so technical that it would require a coach, or someone there in person to demostrate it. It is also not so retarded that one would say "that **** is basic, son. Go to class".

    Get the **** out.

    Yawn. Blow me.

Tharuz, get with your coach on all of those questions. Any spinning manuever must be set up properly. Any spinning technique makes you extremely vulnerable to takedowns. Front leg hook kicks are next to useless.
