    What would you improve

    What would you improve
I know TKD has its flaws and there is a lot missing in WTF (and other) TKD these days. What would you change in order to bring it back on track. And be reasonable and don't go “just add BJJ”.

Would you cut down on Poomse? Would you allow fists to the face in competition?
Speak your mind but remember it still has to be TKD.

Face contact in competition would be a must in my opinion. Also in a lot of the videos that I have seen on line, tkd fighters seam to get pushed around when fighting kyokushin fighters. It seams to me like they are off balance a little maybe due to some of the kicking methods? The two year black belt program probably does not do it any favors either.

Why bother? That within itself is the inherent problem with most systems - they are rigid and try and make square pegs fit round holes all in the name of keeping it "pure"

If you ENJOY your TKD for what it is then why change it at all? Simply keep getting better. If on the other hand you are looking to add all sorts of elements to make your TKD "uber-lethal catch all best there ever was fighting art" then you will fail miserably.

If I want kicks with dazzling speed I'll train TKD. If I want to add a grappling dimension I'll train in a grappling system. If I want weapons, maybe a FMA. Once or twice a week I may get together with friends and try and plait the ends of the arts together.

That said, face contact and punches that don't universally suck would help

Face punches, leg kicks, lose the forms and eradicate the kiddie class mentality from the adult classes. Why bother though? If you have MT nearby you can get all those fixes just by walking through the front door.

I would improve the search function, so that we don't have any more "what would you fix in TKD" threads.

he's got a point, but because the "search function fist" is not yet added:

    - lowkicks, sweeps
    - shinkicks
    - elbow and knee techniques
    - punching to the face
    - stand-up grappling/clinching (like San Da)
    - basic throws

The basic assumption in the first, and many of the other posts is that there is something wrong with TKD. There's nothing wrong with TKD. WTF TKD trained for and used in Olympic style sparring competition is great as it is. ITF TKD trained for and used in ITF competition is great as it is.

Obviously you all meant "What would you improve in TKD used in MMA competition." State that explicitly.
