If the fighter being slammed knows what he's doing this can actually be a bad idea. As evidence, at the RFL card in macon this weekend Stephen Ledbetter had a triangle almost locked up Johnny Bedford. Bedford hoised Ledbetter up practically above his head. Ledbetter just grapped on to the back of Bedford's head and flexed his neck muscles to prevent his head from bouncing on the mat. So when he came down all that happed was Bedford managed to put himself further into the triangle and allowed Ledbetter to lock it in. If the head doesn't hit the mat then chances are you just screwed yourself with that slam. This is actually the 3rd or 4th time I've seen that happen in a fight. There are much better ways to defend a triangle than slamming.

I've seen in an Aoki highlight where Aoki has a guy in a triangle, the guy stands up to slam, and Aoki just starts wailing on the guy with one hand while holding on to the leg that was over the shoulder with his other. IIRC the guy fell right into a mounted triangle.
