    The Whoring of Kempo

As I look more and more into Kempo(when I refer to kempo I am referring to the mitose hawwaiian lineage styles of kempo to avoid confusion) I am horribly descusted and disturbed.

I have been training in Kempo for over 8 years now and I like what I do and how we train. We do a mix of kempo techniques, very limited forms, our stand up is mostly muy thai and boxing, ground is BJJ, we do Kali, spontaneous reaction drills, and MMA style training. We have always managed to evolve and add in new things and improve upon what we do(Original intentions of Kempo).

I knew there were a lot of crapppy kempo places, but as I look into kempo more and more (much due to this website) I realize how horrible it has become. How the "masters" of kempo have been selling ranks and whoring out the art to make a quick buck. There are too many to name
(please discuss in this thread the whore bags you know of)

Look at guys like Villari - you can buy his video and get a black belt for $150
I know a guy with a stack of blank black belt certificates signes by emperado.
I look and see so many shitty martial artist who call themselves masters and teach others how to defend themselves with ineffective, impractical, and quite idiotic martial arts.
    Look at Christopher Geary www.christophergeary.com

I am just ahamed at what kempo has become. An art that had the right idea, that mixed different syles try to make the most effective art possible, that train realisticly, that was meant to evolve. It evolved into a big smear of poo unfortunatley due to many of the pioneers whoring themselves.

I will continue to train in Kempo, but I will always avoid the kempo community and all the bullshit(politics, etc.) that goes along with it. I really love The Kempo. I'm going to call what I do The Kempo from now on. I teach for a living now and hope to pass on the right idea of Kempo to my students.

Thanks for reading. Feeback, opinions, examples of kempo whores are welcome to this conversation.

"Real Kempo"? What do you consider real?

Hey Chris. Welcome to my life 3 years ago. ;)

Curious, who's the guy with the pre-signed certificates? I got a few names popping around my head, and I wonder if we're thinking of the same person.

That's Teh Errant's way of throwing some hidden *nirvanistic* wisdom to us mere mortals.
Read this for flexibility and injury prevention, this, this and this for supplementation, this on grip conditioning, and this on staph. New: On strenght standards, relationships and structural balance. Shoulder problems? Read this.

My crapuous vlog and my blog of training, stuff and crap. NEW: Me, Mrs. Macho and our newborn baby.

New To Weight Training? Get the StrongLifts 5x5 program and Rippetoe's "Starting Strength, 2nd Ed". Wanna build muscle/gain weight? Check this article. My review on Tactical Nutrition here.

t-nation - Dissecting the deadlift. Anatomy and Muscle Balancing Videos.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

"Real", defined, is easy in a martial-arts context. 'Martial' = "combative".

Can you win a good percentage of fights with the Kempo you do?

Fights, as in real combat, under realistic conditions, against adversaries who are really fighting all-out against you?

If so, then you can claim to do the 'real Kempo'.

I've been told that I don't do Kempo or Kajukenbo. I'd say what I do encompasses the principles of the arts, and is indeed effective. But what do I know?
