    a) they train together fairly often, so it's a moot point. They won't be fighting anytime soon.

    b) of COURSE BJ can beat faber- he walks around almost 20lbs heavier.

That said, I think Faber is the better p4p. BJ simply has not dominated any weight class in the fashion that Faber has been dominating his for years. Faber has the better record, and more consistent performance.

Faber's record is pointless because he has far, far less competition in his weight class. Who has BJ lost to? Hughes? Machida? GSP? Pulver? And who has he beaten? Pulver, Hughes, Sherk, and two fucking Gracies.

It's no contest which one is the "better record". BJ's is.

Umm, no. Faber has decimated almost every major player in his weight-class aside from Kid. Bj's got better potential, but has not performed as consistently as faber has. Faber's record is comprable to Fedor's for chrissake. Would BJ whip his ass?

    Almost certainly

Is Faber one of the best p4p fighters according to his win-loss record?

    Hell yes.

The point is that your W/L record is skewed by the competition you've faced. BJ's is a worse record, but against better fighters. By your logic, a Rickson-esque 400-0 record against nothing but XMA dancers is more impressive than a 5-5 record against MMA champions since you've "performed more consistently."

Or, less antagonizingly, his p4p consistency has less value if the overall p4p skill of his competition is lower than the overall p4p skill of Penn's.

How about this. Who of note aside from Kid Yamamoto has Faber NOT beaten in his weightclass?

He may not be there quite yet, but Wilson Reis could probably give him a good fight.

i understand what you're saying about his weight class (added, due to the fact that tyson griffin knocked him out). but look at BJ's weight class, or should i say EVERY weight class he's ever fought at. his competition is much more developed than faber's competition. if faber fought gsp, he would lose. hell, he had to go to decision to beat jens pulver! BJ kicked pulver's ass with the quickness. p4p, BJ is the better fighter, whether you want to take competition, record, or whatever into it. in TEN fights against BJ, faber couldn't win once.

There are tons of good Japanese featherweights in Shooto and Urijah has only fought two of them.
