Just start off with JKD and you get a good foundation to go any direction you want to.
Dan and Bruce made boxing work together with wing chun, kali, muay thai techniques etc. Its all good. Also dont forget unarmed and armed defenses. many fighters forget those and when they need it there butt is fried. Try various styles of escrima they will prepar you well for all types of weopons (obvioulsy not guns! Heh Heh).

i did jkd and loved it, but the guys i learnt off of certainly didn't teach me enough grappling imo for mma, now i do alot of judo & kickbox but the place i do judo does a hell of a lot more groundwork than most. Some judoka seem totally bemused when confronted with groundwork. So imo...jkd, mt and either judo or bjj. or if you're lucky you'll find really good mma training with a good bunch of guys, then school everyone

nowadays i think the best thing you could do is go to a MMA oriented school, wouldnt they practice under rules as close to UFC/NHB/whatever as possible?

Whenever anyone mentions MT in the context of MMA, the following question comes to mind:
How effective can MT expected to be for a person if they are not conditioning themselves in the required manner?

Most of the MMA people that I know do train some MT, but almost none of them have "toughened" up their shins, etc. My theory is that without this aspect, their standup game may not be as strong as they think. Opinions?
