Wrote this article for my site. Gives you a little history on guys like Liddell, Bas Rutten, GSP, Gomi. Thought the guys at bullshido might be interested as well. Alot of great tma practitioners here.

I wouldn't go as far as to call some of those guys as Karate fighters.

More like Karate influenced, or comes from a Karate backround.

I bet if you asked a lot of those guys what 'style' they associate themselves with, they wouldn't say Karate.

Most of them would probably say MMA or a mix of x, y, and z styles.

Of course.

I was trying to educate more than state that these our "karate guys". I was hoping to show that the way Chuck drops his hands to chamber a punch isn't all that strange nor is Machida's fighting style.

These are mixed martial artists. It's safe to say they hybridize. But I tried to rank them as karate effectiveness goes. I think they all use alot of karate in their skills. We all know GSP has managed to put olympians on their back and chuck was D1 level.

I've heard guys say chucks kick's are ugly. Those are snap kicks. Indicative of hawaiian kempo. I was only hoping to educate. Not really to cause people to think in labels.

I liked the article. Particularly mentioning how karate has influenced their striking game, and trying to demonstrate that karate really is a part of their fighting, and not just something way in their background.

Meh, depends on how you look at it.

I tend to think its just a little lazy to keep your hands dropped like that, as well as dangerous, but my striking skills are worse then the first b.j you ever got, so my opinion doesn't really matter...

In terms of his chambering or not...i don't think he really does. I think he just keeps his hands low...

I think his low hands are reckless but work for him, I just wasn't sure if when like he "cocks" his arm if thats technically karate style. Oh and I don't think your striking skills are bad enough to leave teeth marks...
