NY Combat Sambo Style: combat sambo
This was my student Brad (14 years old) in his first sambo tournament. He has been with me 9 months. He did very well on the mat his first time out. Most of the other kids were much more experienced with several years in training.

It's always nice to see someone who fully commits to the takedown. I see more half-ass takedown attempts in BJJ than I care to admit.
Pretty impressive for a 9 month student. He looks like he has some natural aptitude as well.
Good job coach.

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought Sambo had punching? What are the rukes here? Also, great takedowns, I would have never guessed this kid has only been training for 9 months.

This was a sport sambo tourny. No striking.
Yes, Brad has a very natural aptitude for sure. He picks things up quickly...he never studied any combative art prior to starting with me.
As far as committing to the takedown, I am very pleased with how he did because I am always bitching about that to him in class. He had lost a match prior to that one and it was mainly due to lack of committment. The loss put his ass in gear.

FACT- Eddie Bravo invented the triangle choke when he used it to tap out helio gracie at an ac/dc concert.

That's fucking awesome. I love that takedown where you drop and kick the ankle while you are falling.
So sport sambo has no strikes? Do you guys train striking at your school too?
Fear and bullets.

Sambo looks like fun. And from a judo guy, that's saying something. How is Sambo scored?
And lo, Kano looked down upon the field and saw the multitudes. Amongst them were the disciples of Uesheba who were greatly vexed at his sayings. And Kano spake: "Do not be concerned with the mote in thy neighbor's eye, when verily thou hast a massive stick in thine ass".
