Disappointing performance from Sherk. I'm not really sure what his gameplan was supposed to be. And yeah, the commentary was atrocious. Luckily, Machida's awesomeness made up for it.

I give Machida all the credit in the world for being a great technical fighter, but damn his style is boring. He's elusive, but doesn't engage often, happy to pick his shots and out point his opponent. I wonder why Machida gets praise when someone like Tim Sylvia, who does essentially the same thing (jab his way to victory) gets mocked for being boring, well, besides him being unlikable by the general public.

Because Machida makes his opponents, regardless of top 10 ranking, look slow, amateurish, and stupid when he fights. Tim Sylvia might outpoint people, but he manages to make himself look slow, amateurish, and stupid when he fights. You know. Instead of his opponents.

I loved the Machida - Ortiz fight. It was fun watching the frustration build in Tito. Also, Tito almost pulls a sub off his back? WTF!
Curiosity killed the cat. But damn it had a blast.

Machida not only makes people hit air, he actually made Tito shoot on air.

He truly is extremely elusively elusive in his elusiveness.

Being Tito wasn't working for him, so what else was he to do?

Because Sylvia just uses size and reach to keep his opponents at the end of his jab. Machida has incredible movement, not just backwards but side-to-side and in-and-out. He's always busy with feints, making his opponents attack before moving away and hitting at their weak spots. He's a very dynamic fighter who's very interesting to watch. Sylvia isn't.

    1) Machida doesn't just do the same thing over and over again. He uses footwork, strategy, feints, and sudden bursts of aggression to make opponents unable to predict his movements.

    2) Because he has actually technical counters to everything that happens, and shrugs off takedown attempts by goddamn tito ortiz and soku

    3) He can take down or put away some pretty goddamn tough guys when he feels like it.
