Thread: Gracie vs Machado JJS?

I guess its like goju-ryu and shotokan. Both are karate style and share many similar techiniques but at the same time they place different emphasis.
According to the Garcies they say they didnt event a new martial art. They just apply the principles of JJJ to a different emphasis. Thats why they still maintain the name "jiujitsu".
Same priciples different emphasis. Thats all. (Smile!)Ghost of Charles Dickens

I would suspect that if you watched two advanced students from either school you wouldn't be able to tell who their instructor was. By the time someone is purple belt, let alone brown or black they will have their own style of jiu-jitsu. Different people have different games, even if they're brothers - so Rigan Machado's game which is very much a "pressure" and crushing game is different to Jean-Jacques Machado's game which is more leverage based and based on feints and set-ups.

I wouldnt mind seeing a fight between two karate styles and try to figure out who is training in which style? Its all pretty interesting if you ask me!Ghost of Charles Dickens

I recently saw a video on youtube of Rigan Machado vs Rickson gracie, it looked pretty cool but I got tired of watching it due to the poor quality of the whole thing. there must be a better version of the vid out there
