    Good Schools in Bay Area

I have been directed here by another member, and wanted to know, are there any exellent/especailly distinguished/worth going to FMA schools in the general area of San Jose, Santa Clara, and there abouts? I am especially intrested in ones teaching with a strong weapon emphasis.

    Thanks

Add me to the FMA ranks here, yo!

I just started taking private lessons with Bob Manalo, who teaches Serrada Eskrima. I just started last week, and so far I'm loving it. He teaches in San Francisco, though, so you'd have to travel, but he's a really enthusiastic and knowledgeable guro so it might be worth your while.

Here is the email address of a Pekiti Tirsia instructor in San Jose Mike Franciotti
    michaelfranc@yahoo.com

Also here is a link to an organization with Serrada ties in your area here

I can't speak to their quality other than their instructors. PTK has pretty good quality control and Serrada is the same as far as I have experienced. Others may be better able to comment on these schools.

yeah but they are a very expensive gym, and not close to my friend.

if it was me i would go to fairtex (and he may) but he's totally new to BJJ and i thought that a BJJ-only school might be better for the first couple years anyway

It is probably the crappiest website ever made, but Cahill's studio is one of the oldest in the bay area, if not CA. Awesome judo coach and the rate for 1 day a week is $40. Hard to beat that if he takes BART down to San Bruno and does 1 day of Judo mixed in with a couple days of BJJ. He'd be a badass in no time flat.
I have to agree- Cahill has trained alot of champs, and some of his kids have went to the Olympics. You could do a lot worse.
