    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    competing with another schools name?

it have been a month since i have been taking muay thai at fighthouse and i want to compete in amateurs, however my coach have told the class in general that he would perfer us to at least train a year before competing. i got into the intermidiates class 2 weeks ago, learned lots of interesting stuff and would like to actually try it out in actual competitions. i dont feel comfortable asking the coach to let me compete at this stage...

the other day i went back to my karate school to visit old friends. had a drink with my ex karate sensei and we had a little discussion about competition, i told him that i dont want to make my current muay thai school look bad by being too hasty and compete, he told me why not fight under his school and said that it wouldnt matter if i lose

i want to have a fight by september but i am still arguing with myself at this moment whether or not i should do it... can anyone give me some advice?

I wouldn't. Taking what you've learned in MT and using it under the name of a Karate school you don't even belong to anymore... bad idea.

Could potentially be a bad move. I did it, but my fight was an underground smoker which really isn't even a real fight anyway.

It all depends on your coach, and the notoriety of the event you are competing at. Technically yeah, you are flying a different banner, and there should be no problem, but sometimes it's the principle of the thing, and if your coach found out it may rub him the wrong way.

I wouldn't worry about the ethics in that regard. Fighting is fighting. He trained there once, and is just utilizing the Karate school as an establishment that can attest to the promoter that "yes" he has trained, and isn't some bum walking in off the street.

sounds like a great way to needlessly piss off the guy who, ostensibly, you want to help further your fight career.

I did it...and got pwned. There's a good reason schools often want students to prepare appropriately for fights....

that said, fight as team flying teabag and there's no shame, because it's all shame.

I'm guessing that he's saying you're not ready for a reason. You trust him for advice with your training, right? Why not trust him for advice about competing?

he never really said i am not ready but he was talking to the class in general that we would need to train for about a year before competing, but i have previous martial arts experience and 1 amateur fight
