Yep, he clearly had no idea that Thiago´s main strength was his striking. Not his BJJ. Thiago has great takedown defence, good ground defence if he gets taken down and excellent striking. I think he is a bad matchup for Hughes.

Thiago will force Hughes into retirement.

I want Hughes to win this with a glorious sub in the the 3rd round. Then I want him and serra to kill each other, that is the only rational and narritively sound end to Hughes's career. And will save Serra from obscurity.

I forget, how did Fitch beat him? Did he out-wrestle him?

Good for Alves. Like many other welterweights, his talent was getting lost in the larger talent pool. I totally agree that Hughes is gonna get knocked out. I think it'll be almost out cold. Not a long, pick-apart method, but a giant knee or brutal hook.

Wow, Hughes is actually MAKING this card. And his fight isn't even a pro-wrestling-esque grudge match. It kind of makes you remember how awesome he used to be..hopefully he'll show it too...and keep his mouth shut.

I love it. It's like when GSP vs. Hughes III replaced Serra vs. Hughes. Best possible replacement fight.

Hughes TKO, 2nd round, by throwing a cow press at him.

But probably Alves... Knee to knockdown to mount to TKO punches.

    I love Alves.
I also love how much people are discounting Hughes.
I fucking hate Hughes but he's still a very good fighter.

Oh, this'll be a good, athletic fight for sure. I just think the same things that allowed him to stand with Karo will let him stand with Hughes.

One could make the arguement that Alves has improved a lot since that fight. And that Fitch is, dare I say, a stronger and better wrestler than Hughes. At least at this point of their careers. Fitch also has a pretty good standup game, where Hughes is absolutely horrible. Just because Fitch beat Alves doesnt mean Hughes will. Hughes hasn´t looked good in the octacon for a long time now. He even admitted in an interview that he has lost his will to train like a professional. He is only a shell of what he used to be and I believe Alves is gonna put an end to Hughes´ career in that fight.
