He has done competitions, but I think he is mostly a traditionalist. I've been to a couple of his seminars, where he teaches bokken techniques with aikijitsu and judo.

Well, I think I know why he left. He pretty much says, on his new website, that the USMA is a BB mill.

I see that if you die, you may be posthumously (sp?) awarded 11th or 12th degree.

Whats the difference here? Sounds like borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.

Thank you for your responses. In short, Kano (the founder of judo and creator of the kyu/dan rank system for martial arts) made provisions for ranks above 10th dan, but they were never awarded during his lifetime. Because of this, it is not really understood how he intended to impliment them.

We have added this provision to our ranks but it is very, very unlikely (i.e. all but impossible) that either of these ranks will ever be awarded - if outstanding judoka like Mifune, Nagaoka, etc. did not warrant promotion to this rank, it is not at all likey that others will either. We have left the door open, on the off chance that one deserving of this honor comes to prominence in the martial arts at some point in the distant future.
