Questions about HEALTH issues related to long term training of BJJ

I understand that doing bjj is full of extraordinary benefits. I’ve been doing it for about eight months now and I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m just curious about the effects it may have on my body in the long term. I was wondering if there are any negative long term effects of doing bjj. All of those arm bars etc. can’t be good on my joints. What type of physical damage are they doing to me? I’ve heard that all the chokes we do may cause scar tissue to build up in the veins and arteries in our neck. Is this true? How can I lessen any of these negative side effects?

I was leaning towards more of the anatomical and physical negative effects that bjj will have on a person. Like in running, runners will develop knee problems later on if they run obsessively over a long period of their life …but ok I guess it’s good you’re not a *****

Well, for me, grappling has meant a bad back, and my right shoulder/arm/knee/ankle are kind of fucked. And I have cauliflower. I'm hoping my ear doesn't burst too soon, cause **** getting it drained only to swell up again.

But my point was that through not being a *****, I'm able to ignore that ****.

Learn to tap when you're caught, not when it hurts.

The older you get the more work you have to do and things you have to learn about diet, proper conditioning and maintenance.
