Nice quick move to that triangle in the third. I really didn't think you'd get it based on the angle and distance.

Looking really good. I have to ask though, what competition class was this? You looked a lot better than any of your opponents. Quit sandbagging!

The main two things that I'd say are that your mounting is a little sloppy. Once in mount you're looking really good. Second, when you're in mount, my preference is to work the mounted triangle. While you've got really good armbars, why potentially give up top?

That is not conducive to passionate cunnilingus, my friend, let me assure you.

I think i was just a little faster on the mark than he was and as soon as i released the guillotine I put both hands on his head and started squeezing my knees and locking in the triangle - admittedly if he'd been a bit faster/tighter in defence of it I might not have got it.

This was an open team tournament - I was on the SBG Ireland team for the u165lb slot. The guys I'm fighting there are from a few different clubs although some of them were on the 2nd team. I actually had a much more competitive match in my 3rd fight but we didnt get it on tape (although I was still pretty dominant and finished with another s-mount armbar, the guy escaped a few subs and passed off a failed omoplata attempt for a second before I escaped)

The main two things that I'd say are that your mounting is a little sloppy. Once in mount you're looking really good. Second, when you're in mount, my preference is to work the mounted triangle. While you've got really good armbars, why potentially give up top?
I'd agree my mounting looks real sloppy from those vids, but I think its normally a lot bette rt - this was probably a case of overconfidence - I know the second guy and I knew I was a few levels above him so I didn't tighten up as well as I'd have with a more dangerous opponent. I actually had some very nice transitions to mount against my 3rd opponent repeatedly - I've been working on that type of no-gi pass where you hug the upper body and use hip switches and leg movement/shin sliding to pass, and that worked extremely well for me both in passing and transitioning to mount against him.

I see where you're coming from and I may well start looking into the mounted triangle - but I just find that s-mount combination is extremely difficult to escape and I actually feel a lot more secure going for that kind of slow armbar where i can really lock it down than a mounted triangle - although one of the guys on my team finished a few of his fights that way so I might ask him how he does it.

What way would you normally set up a mounted triangle?

Hell yeah man. Rape choke is a great way to force your opponent to defend his neck which in turn sets up working to a higher mount for s-mount. I finished my first 3 fights the exact same way - rape choke, work higher, s-mount, armbar.

I use this exact sequence all the time. The rape choke was one of the first moves Marcelo taught me for causing panic in a guy under mount.

I had a disagreement with Strikestanian at the last TD about the Rape Choke. Is this a two handed throttle, or a hand-over-mouth smother? Or something else?

Leo Vieira has told me it's only illegal if you actually pinch your hand together around his trachea. As long as it's only the webbing pushing straight on his throat it's legal.
