Mario Roberto Minnesota BJJ School?
Hey, there. I'm new here and I registered to ask if anyone has heard of Mario Roberto and his school in Minnesota:
It looks pretty good to me, but I've looked around google and can't really find anything on it but one local article, the main site, and some MMA fighter site with his stats (4-0) on it.
I'm considering checking it out, but I wanted to check if anyone here has heard of him and/or the school.
*P.S. Sorry if it's the wrong forum. It seems like the right place, but if it's not then sorry.
Yea... thought the name sounded familiar.
He's the BJJ guy, looked pretty promising in MMA, and went to Medical School.
I think he used to post on MMA.TV. Heard some good stuff about him.
yeah, it seems pretty good. I've looked into it a bit more. Won't be able to start for a bit, if I decided to. I was also looking up Tommy Speers, because he's from here, and I noticed it said he trained at the place. Doesn't speak too well, since he sucked pretty terribly in his two UFC fights.
Tommy Speers is clearly a good wrestler and still rather inexperienced.
There was no one there that was going to beat Mac Danzig.
It looks like he is implimenting an ATT Level 1 Cert. type program:

Does anyone attend one of these affiliate schools?
How's it going? I've been a lurker and a big fan of the forum for a long time and was pleasantly surprised to see my name come up. Moo Cow, you're more than welcome to come visit our gym and check it out -- our website hasn't been updated in a while.
Slapsymaxi has good memory! I am mainly a BJJ guy... I had a couple of MMA fights, graduated from school in Brazil and ended up moving to the US. I now teach BJJ and MMA full-time (it has always been my passion). We have a small gym here in Rochester, MN. The 4th St Gym is an old school Irish boxing gym with lots of tradition. I moved here in 2004, and started teaching BJJ and MMA at the gym.
We have been lucky to have good fighters come out of the gym. Besides Tommy, we also have Travis Wiuff (UFC/Pride/IFL/Yamma vet) and Raphael Butler (2004 National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion) fighting out of the 4th St. Gym. We are a simple gym -- we just work hard and try our best. So far it's been working.
Aardvark, I am not familiar with the ATT level 1 Cert. concept... however, we do have a BJJ Association. It is relatively small (six schools total), and organized pretty much the standard way (every affiliate school has a blue belt or higher ranking student teaching, they host seminars, etc.).
I hope the info helps, just let me know if you have any other questions about the gym!
Thanks and take care,
Thanks for coming out of the woods and posting Mario. I'll notify the Staffers that your on board and see about getting you some "instructor", "fighter" and "bjj rank" tags.
If you get a chance head over to our School Review section and put your school in.
I'm transfering this thread to Newbie town since it doesn't involve an investigation of Mario's school.
Thanks for the welcome guys!
Glad to have you on board Mario. I'm actually moving to Indianapolis, IN very soon and found one of your affiliates run by James Clingerman. I'm looking forward to training in your association.
