I'm not sure how much of Angel's ability can be attributed to ninja, and how much to be a very short mexican.

Probably more to being a ninja, I'm a short Brazilian (close enough) and it never helped me (with FMA, at least).

And yes, this is really the way larry talks.

    Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to keep you up to date on our big event coming up on Saturday, May 17th. The Edge Knife & Stick Fighting Championships is our tournament and it is making a come back after a full year off.

The Edge has been dishing out Austin's best champions in its only all weapon formatted tournament since 2003. To help bring a come back this year it will be hosted at the Martial Way Academy for the first time ever!!! The Edge has always debuted its action in amazing venues like Stubb's BBQ in the past. After taking a year off to work on renovations the Edge is back this year with a new format and more divisions.

This year's event will feature all previous as well as some new divisions to intensify the action. To enhance the action a new format to the judging has been added that will bring the spectators to the edge of their seat even more than before. We are really excited to debut The Edge's new format this year as well as host it in our newly renovated school. This will keep the cost down for the spectators and make it even more of a tournament for the competitors. With more divisions all hosting weapon striking, punching, kicking and grappling it offers something for everyone.

Additional Rules, Times and Sponsors will soon be up on a new and improved website. Stay tuned for more information in the next week. For any questions about attending, competing, judging or even sponsoring please contact me back as soon as you can.

Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more information!

    Sincerely,

Guro Larry, Heidi and Lauren St. Clair

    MOAR AD

Larry responding to a question about judging quality

I agree with Gago! I've been to many events and often felt this way. It should and in my opinion has always been a fair day at The Edge. The biggest clarification for most is the rules. If people train with the rules in mind then they should win. The ultimate proof is when you can watch the video with a judge or even myself and we can show someone all the reasons why they did or did not win.

The nice thing is that our judges go through about two to three weeks (roughly 5-10 sessions) of practice judging which really helps. It was the only way we could guarantee the quality of someone seeing the different exchanges.

With that said we can always use people from varying organizations to help out. So if anyone would like to be a guest judge we would love to have you on board. Obviously we would need to connect prior to the tournament to have you do a few practice rounds.

On that note, we usually have a day where other competitors can come out and spar with and around some of the judges and other competitors. This gives everyone a chance to modify their game plan with the rules in mind weeks before the tournament.

I'll be honest, those that didn't make the practice sessions did pretty good. Those that either made the practice sessions and or have returned to the tournament from previous years have done phenomenal!!! This being said, that has been the case with our schools competitors in other tournaments as well.

I'll keep everyone informed on when these dates will be.

Hope to see more people out here on May 17th bringing FMA and Weapons Competitions to the front of the line.

    Sincerely,

Guro Larry, Heidi and Lauren St. Clair

Since variance asked in another thread- three disarms in the SAME ROUND(not same match) are a TKO. The rounds are short, so this is hells of hard.

Oh, and for dallas-type people, there's apparently going to be a Mande muda silat seminar with Ibu Rita's husband teaching, which I think will be on the cheap side, as indonesians don't have real money.
