Actually, I recall Nog getting dominated both times. I think candidate for closest to beating fedor might have been Arona, or maybe fujita. I guess you can consider Mark Hunt's efforts for americanas as an honorable mention, but Fedor never looked to concerned about those attempts.

wow I just watched the fedor/arona fight...you're right, that was really close. I think Arona would have won that fight under UFC rules. I googled RINGS MMA rules, but didn't find anything, and the announcers were in Poruguese, but it seems like it was a two round bout, with a one round overtime...and although Fedor won the round that mattered, and to my Amerocentric jaundiced eye, it seems like Arona had the first two, via takedowns and sub attempts, although Fedor had a few of his own, and some sick reversals, he fought the majority of the first part of the fight in a dis-adventagous position.
Fedor/Couture, would almost certainly, and Couture/Nogueira would (Obviously) fight under the UFCesque Unified Rule Set that I'm familiar with. I believe Couture would try to strike alot more than Arona did, more clinching, along with the takedowns...standing with Fedor seems dangerous.
Edit: What I mean is, if the fight, as it happened, was judged under the UFC paradigm, the result would have been different, not if we went back in time and changed the rules before hand.....Last edited by stupidwhiteman; 4/01/2008 11:17pm at .
