Good lord you don't walk up to the edge you jump right over.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Ask yourself who owns K-1?

Welcome to the world of CMA whining.

Where every rule is an excuse and every argument becomes TMA vs BJJ.

Not an unreasonable position: he was an All American Wrestler in high school and California State Champion in Junior College. That said, I claim him for sanshou:

    As for his CMA background:

But it's close to Chinese kung fu, because after all, the Chinese had occupied Vietnam for 1000 years."
... in addition, many of the sanshou-specific techniques he uses (kick catches, sweeps, setups for throws, &c) were learnt from Shawn "Iron Leg" Liu (a Chinese full-contact champ) when Le joined the US Sanshou team in '94.

Cung Le is an MMA fighter with a background that includes proper CMA. Trying to claim his wins as a victory for "pure" CMA is wrong, but so is denying his CMA training.

Um, what he does on the ground with his bjj skills aside, everything he does in standup looks exactly like typical Shotokan.

45 degrees sideways-facing stance instead the squared up Muay Thai-esque stance most mma-ers use? Check.

Reverse punch used instead of a left cross? Check.

Round kicks have a distinct element of knee chamber instead of being swung like a baseball bat? Check.

Focus on defensive counter punching? Check.

Subtle, small footsweeps to upset the opponent's balance? Check.

I could go on, but it's a Cung Le thread, not a Machida thread. I really don't get your point though. What do you expect them to do, start doing a kata in the middle of the octagon?
