Osiris,
Your TKD teaches throws from the clinch? Shin stomps? Elbows? WTF?Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog -

Taekkyon also does double and single leg takedowns, though they're not as good as wrestlers. I think the fact that we NEVER fight out of a side guard is pretty nice too.

Um...do those clips work for anyone? I found them about a year ago and they've never worked for me. Keep in mind, there are TWO major Taekkyon associations, and one of them is complete Bullshido. It also happens to be a bit bigger, mostly because of its sponsorship by the senior TKD guys in country.

Nope, they's all broke. I managed to d'ld some but they don't work. Still, apart from this site it's the most info I've seen on Taekkyon anywhere.
Os, what the hell are you talking about, "The side gaurd [sic] is not taught in TKD at all." I call shenanigans on you. Shenanigans! Case in point:

(I didn't post the pic directly 'cause it's rather large)
Numbers 1 and 3 (as well as others) clearly show what is called a back stance, which is most definitely a side guard. As opposed to, say this:

or this:

Please tell me you weren't serious.-----------------------------------------------------

Baloney. We used the back stance in sparring all the freakin' time when I took TKD, and it wasn't an off the beaten path TKD school, either. I'd say that maybe WTF doesn't use it in sparring (as I have little experience with WTF), but I *have* seen the Olympics, and those guys were just as bad as my old school at sitting in back stance and bouncing while looking for openings. Sorry dude, like it or not side guard is a part of TKD.
