But their basic technique is so r and sloppy that they are not as effective in those areas as they could be. i.e. if they trained punches like a boxer, or kicks like a TKD practitioner, then said MMA fighters could be SO much more effective, and it would make the sport more appealing to audiences.
How is a punch that knocks a guy out ineffective? One of the main problems with TMA is the tendency to favor form over substance. They focus their training more on throwing a kick or punch that looks good than throwing a kick or punch that hurts. You can see this in videos of Wallace's fighting. Consider these stats:
Bill Wallace 13 KO's.
Chuck Liddell 13 KO's.
Cro Cop 13 KO's.
Rampage 13 KO's.
Bas Rutten 12 KO's
Jeremy Horn 19 KO's
Matt Hughes 14 KO's
Tim Sylvia 16 KO's
Anderson Silva 12 KO's
Wanderlei Silva 21 KO's.
True, you have to factor in the difference in gloves. But that is offset by the fact that there's so much grappling in MMA, which reduces the opportunity to strike. So who has the more effective striking? I'll go with the MMA fighters.Last edited by Devil; 4/08/2008 1:35pm at .

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris -
