    bag rounds w/ weighted vest

Has anyone done bag rounds with a weighted vest on? What do you think of it? Will it help or hurt your workout?

Hurt your work-out. There's no purpose in this so don't do it.

As far as I understand, the only real use for a weighted vest is increasing the resistance during bodyweight workouts.

This means, on days you're training maximal strength, if whatever bodyweight excercise you're using isn't challenging you and you're starting to plateau, adding weight to yourself helps. I would probably NOT do any kind of sports-specific activity in pretty much anything other than the gear i'll be competing in.

I've been wanting to get a weight vest for a while but not quite sure if they are worth the money. Anybody have a good routine they do that uses a weight vest. Anybody ever messed themselves up training with one? Should this question be it's own thread?

Any decent non-plyo bodyweight routine should be fine.

those have a couple of problems:

    1) they can cause joint damage

    2) to avoid joint damage, your body will naturally slow down the speed of the punch before it hits the bag. this means that you are training yourself to actually hold back right before impact.

if you want to increase punching power with weights, ross enamait suggests shot puts with 5 lb. medicine balls or small dumbells. this way you get to extend your strike all the way through and don't risk joint injuries.
