    XG Kickboxing

    Hey ya'll.

Here's a relatively new style/ruleset of Kickboxing (at least I found out about it this week) called Xtreme Gladiator Kickboxing. It's promoted only by the IKF.

    What's your take on this?

They say it's a mix of San Shou and Muay Thai

    - Allowed to clinch and throw continuous knees as long as a fighter is busy
    - Throws/takedowns legal, yet no points for takedowns/throws

I don't know really what to think. Sounds like the IKF wants to to get popular by showing people a ruleset with those small MMA gloves but no groundfighting. Also I think it's pretty odd not award points for throws and takedowns.

    Anyone have vids on it?

Maybe what they are trying to avoid is a guy who comes in and just repeadetly shoots for a double over and over again? That's just speculation on my part though.

sounds like they want mma without the ground fighting. i find the no knees to the head rule a bit odd, but i suppose it's primarily an amateur ruleset (as reinforced by the use of training gloves rather than fight gloves). no mention is made one way or another about knockdowns and ref stoppages, which concerns me.

I mean it sounds interesting, but I need to see it in action first.

If the word "Xtreme" is in the title, it HAS to be good.

Well, from reading the rules, it certainly seems interesting... however, I think they should allow throws/takedowns to count for something. Since they don't want it to be too takedown-heavy, I would suggest that they make takedowns worth very little in terms of points; better than worth nothing at all.

I find it kind of odd that high kicks and throws are strongly encouraged, yet in the case of throws there's no points given for one. Also, are they correct when saying the gloves will have "the same shock dispersing capabilities as a 16 Ounce Boxing Glove." I ask as I have no experience with boxing or mma. Overall, it does sound interesting.

Today, a friend and I sparred lightly under these rules and we found it quite fun and challenging.
